Chem-Trend makes die casting history with 10 years of HERA™
Ten years ago, Chem-Trend unveiled HERA™ (High Efficiency Release Agent), innovative and highly efficient mould release agents for micro-spray applications in the die-casting process. On this anniversary, the global leader in the development and production of high-performance release agents, purging compounds and other specialised process chemicals, is taking stock: Foundries that use HERA™ particularly stress the positive impact these innovative mould release agents have on productivity, efficiency, and sustainability in the casting process.
Better results can be achieved when casting using HERA™ (High Efficiency Release Agents) compared with conventional release agents used in standard moulding processes, Chem-Trend reports in its summary of 10 years of HERA™. These benefits are associated with a variety of significant outcomes according to the company: For instance, only a fraction of the usual quantity of mould release agent needs to be used in a micro-spray process in situations where release agent is needed for demoulding. There are now virtually no limits on part geometry, which can be produced very efficiently. In terms of cost, using HERA™ mould release agents also pays off – not least because of the significantly reduced wear on casting tools and substantial savings in terms of resources and waste helping customers make strides in their sustainability efforts.
“An innovative manufacturer of automotive parts came to us about ten years ago with a request to radically optimise its die casting processes. In the course of in-depth research into HERA™ mould release agents, we were able to provide the company with a technology that remains revolutionary today,” says Darko Tomazic, Local Senior Manager Germany at Chem-Trend.
Developed as part of the joint project “ProGRess”
HERA™ was developed during the period 2009 to 2011 as part of the joint project “ProGRess” (Design of resource-efficient process chains using the example of aluminium die casting) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The goal of the project was to make a 15 percent saving in energy and resources – and thereby improve the CO2 footprint of manufacturers.
Diverse applications and benefits using HERA™
HERA™ has a wide range of potential applications: For instance, this release agent technology platform is suitable for standard as well as highly ductile special alloys – and even for complex part geometries with the highest requirements on part quality for the next stages of the value-added process. Chem-Trend’s solution receives a positive response everywhere it is used.
With this exceptional innovation HERA™ resolves numerous challenges in the die casting sector. According to Chem-Trend, the use of HERA™ offers the following major benefits:
- Reduced consumption of release agent, less waste water
- Significantly extended service life of casting dies due to reduced thermal shock
- Reduced compressed air and energy consumption
- Improved process reliability
